$30 Budget Vintage or ‘Value Vintage’ is a constructed 1v1 format utilizing the current Wizards of the Coast Vintage Banned & Restricted List originating in Cincinnati, OH circa 2016. 

Decks must contain a minimum of sixty cards. There is no maximum deck size. If a player wishes to use a sideboard, it must contain no more than fifteen cards. 

A player’s combined deck and sideboard may not contain more than four of any individual card, counted by its English card title equivalent. With the exception of cards that state otherwise (eg. “Relentless Rats”), and the cards “Wastes”, “Plains”, “Island”, “Swamp”, “Mountain”, and “Forest”. (And their snow-covered equivalents)

A player’s deck and sideboard must also not exceed $30 USD in total price, determined by the current cheapest, English language, tournament legal printing according to TCGplayer market price.

Some cards have printings that are written in in-universe languages such as Phyrexian. These cards are not beholden to the “English Language” ruling and are treated as legal, separate entities for budget purposes. For example, the Phyrexian language printing of Vraska, Betrayal’s Sting from Phyrexia: All Will be One may count as the cheapest available printing but the Italian-only printing of Marrow-Gnawer from Salvat 2005 is not. 

Sometimes Moxfield will indicate that a specific version of a card is grossly undervalued, such as a Demonic Tutor from Summer Magic being listed as 10 cents. In these and all other similar cases, anyone and everyone should have the capacity to buy your deck at its listed price. If this is not the case, those cards that are not actually for sale for their listed price cannot be included for their listed price. If something seems too good to be true, it is. Judges and/or Tournament Organizers have final say on all pricing discrepancies. 

The cards “Plains”, “Island”, “Swamp”, “Mountain”, and “Forest” are excluded from this rule, instead being priced at $0.00 USD. 

The cards “Snow-Covered Plains”, “Snow Covered-Island”, “Snow-Covered Swamp”, “Snow-Covered Mountain”, “Snow-Covered Forest”, and “Snow-Covered Wastes” are priced individually. 

The card “Wastes” is priced individually.

Banned and Restricted List:

  • 25 Cards with the Card type “Conspiracy” 
  • 9 Cards that reference “Playing for Ante”
  • All cards that bring a sticker or an Attraction into the game. A full list of cards can be found here.
  • Cards who art, text, name, or combination thereof are racially or culturally offensive are banned in all formats. This list is a work in progress. 
  • Chaos Orb
  • Falling Star
  • Shahrazad

The Following Cards are Restricted from Play:
